Description (Last modified by lazytt)

It would be great if there could be an additional
module that allows you to define Phone types and
configuration templates for each phone type.

Then, when you create a device, you can also specify
the phone type and it'll automatically ask for a MAC
address and build the configuration file for the phone
automatically.

I think that this would be a VERY welcome feature among the
Asterisk admin community. I have even gone to the length of
writing a .Net app to manage the config files for me,
however, I would rather see these central provisioning
files prebuilt, if possible, with some way to add custom
definitions for whatever phone you need as to not force the
coders to have to personally set up a module for each
different config style.

This is a copy of my response to another user request for templates:

I'm actually working on something like this (in module form) and will submit when I think it's ready for beta. Currently it's only for Polycom phones though but is working.

Right now I'm using templates to generate per phone configuration files and FTP them somewhere (even locally). I'm going to add a template editor before releasing it. I'd also like to figure a way to reboot the phone if desired when there is a configuration change.

My module adds a menu item and then you add your types of phones then you add the phone. After adding the phone you can select from a list of available extensions and assign them to various buttons. I'd also like to make it so you can assign non-asterisk registrations through this interface but that will come later.

I have a Grandstream GXP-2000 phone but haven't begun to work on anything for it. I also understand the Aastra phones support tftp or ftp as well. Hopefully when I'm done you'll be able to add whatever kind of phone and template you desire but for now it's just Polycom.

bones,

polycom's set to FTP mode will check the server for changes to the FTP files data and time, and autoreboot. There is a script for rebooting polycoms as well. There is also a command to be run internally from asterisk CLI that tells the phone to check for updates. Now based on the sip.cfg default file, the phone will either reboot no matter what, or reboot only if the config file has updated.

the snom360 are very good at auto updating when they detect a change in the central conf files.
