Generic 56K Dial Up Modem with POTS and PBX In A Flash / FreePBX

I am trying to setup my PBX with a Generic modem (FXO I assume). I am unfamiliar with Linux and FreePBX.
Here is what I need help with (actually I need help with everything):
1. Test modem in Linux, and view its port or name and number that I would use with FreePBX.
2. Setup modem in FreePBX (please tell me what every field is).
3. Setup Incoming and Outgoing routes with modem (please tell me what every field is).
Thanks so much! I figured out extensions, but this modem thing has me stuck.
While it's true that some
While it's true that some softmodems can be identified as an X100p clone, the vast majority can't, and you can't just use any old modem to be an FXO device.
The good news is that you can get a purpose designed FXO device pretty cheap these days. For testing, I'd recommend getting an OpenVox card with one FXO port (may as well get an FXS port) or an inexpensive ATA. I know a guy who sells the OpenVox cards for a very good price (don't quote me, but I'm thinking he said single FXO for $75, which is pretty good) and if you need help finding an ATA just ask.

I highly recommend this excellent documentation. Nowhere on Earth will you find a better example of technical literature.
(Yes, I wrote it.)
thanks
Thanks guys! Looks like I am going to have to buy a FXO card :(
Best deal I found for a 4 port FXO:

You can use most of these
You can use most of these too:

Just make sure to get one that's not locked to Vonage or some other provider.

Setup: Linksys SPA 3000 ATA VOIP SPA3102 FXS FXO Sipura 3000
Is "Linksys SPA 3000 ATA VOIP SPA3102 FXS FXO Sipura 3000" easy to setup? Can I use 2 of them easily? Is there any limit on how many of them I can use? Like 50?
I have read all of the tutorials, but I am still not understing exactly what I have to do and do not have to do. Can you give me the basic steps that highlight all of the important things?
Here is what I need help with (actually I need help with everything):
1. Test modem (Linksys SPA 3000 ) in Linux, and view its port or name and number that I would use with FreePBX.
2. Setup modem in FreePBX (please tell me what every field is).
3. Setup Incoming and Outgoing routes with modem (please tell me what every field is).
setup
No modem's ...
the linksys device does not "install" in linux.
I think you may need to go and reread the docs as you do not have a starting point.
You will need to grasp "How things work" right now you do not have a real understanding of what it is you are looking to do.
As for a Step by step how 2 each setup is different you would need to have a bunch more info for that.

Thanks.
Thanks. I did not even know about the documentation for FreePBX. I used PBX In A Flash and did not notice that FreePBX had documentation that covers so much.
This is the article I found:

Should I buy the newer model of this Linksys?
ATA's
ATA is not a good way to create a trunk (delay / echo / etc.)
if you want to have a easier time then buy a PCI card (better all around system).
and yes buy the newer model if there is one.

Quick Guide
Here is my own quick guide to get working under a Linksys (or any router):
Change computer IP to match the SPA 3212 IP range
Computer IP 192.168.0.22
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
In SPA 3212 (do not save until all settings are updated)
Log into: http://192.168.0.1/admin/advanced
Change IP Address to 192.168.1.55
Disable DHCP
Enable Web Access on Phone:
Plug in phone
Dial: ****
Dial: 7932# then dial 1 to enable
Dial: **** then 210# to find out if the IP address is correct
Log into SPA 3212 IP Address (change for your IP):
http://192.168.1.134/admin/advanced
Configure SPA and FreePBX using these instructions:

Dial Tone Instaed of Transfer
I setup the SPA 3212 and I setup an incoming route and told it to ring a group. When the call comes in the SPA is picking up the call and I hear a dial tone. If I type the ring group (0), it works. I am confused why I have to press 0 even though I programmed the incoming route. Any ideas? Thanks.
